Settled in Yuma....

We were buttoned up and hitched by 9:45 am, yesterday.  We said our good byes and drove out of Canyon Vista RV Resort at 10:00 am, sharp.  It was a blue skies day for our departure from Gold Canyon, AZ.  What a lovely spot it was....and we'll be back.

Although we knew our way to our spot in Yuma, the GPS was a great way to monitor our arrival time, our average speed...and more.

The day before our departure was Valentines Day.  Jeanette and I had planned to take one more motorcycle ride before loading up.  It was our intention to ride east from Gold Canyon, on I-60, then south on highway 79 to the small city of Florence - the jail/prison capital of Arizona.

When approaching Florence, the highway sign indicated that Tucson was only 68 - or so - miles further south.  Without stopping, we both agreed to press on.  Why not ride to Tucson and enjoy a nice Valentines lunch?

We had not traveled to Tucson before so we were ready to experience new territory. We thoroughly enjoyed the ride down.

We could not believe how poorly synchronized the traffic lights were on the main highway into the city.  It was nearly impossible to ride further than one light at a time before it would turn red.  Not only that, sometimes - with traffic congestion - we could not get through an intersection from, one half block away, before the light turned red.  What's with that?  In our view, this stop/start traffic is one major reason for pollution over the city skyline.  We were not impressed.

Following two dozen red light stops, we quickly ran out of patience and chose to stop at the mall (photo above) for lunch.

It was a beautiful and warm day so we chose to eat outdoors.....and we chose the joint below for just that.

Last of the big spenders, Jeanette agreed to the restaurant above for a Valentines lunch.

Well, we could at least keep a watchful eye on our motorcycle!  Seriously though, we really do not have to keep watch on the bike but it is a good excuse....and we're sticking to it.

With an invitation for a special Valentines Hot Dog and beans night - over an open fire - back at Canyon Vista Resort, we returned early enough to load the motorcycle onto the  swivel wheel and pack a few more of the bigger items too.

New RV friends, Bonnie and Fritz (from Iowa) invited us - and several other RVers - for a Valentines open fire and outdoor dinner.  We relished attending the event!  

Now, does this group of miscreants look mischievous?

The outdoor food was great......the camaraderie even greater.  We kept warm near the fire as the desert air cooled off.

It's always a pleasure to meet interesting RVers and hear of their experiences.

 The food was great - the banter even greater - and we laughed ourselves silly.  It's hard to beat this kind of fun.

Late in the evening....quite late in fact.....we said our good byes and turned in for our final sleep in Gold Canyon.  Jeanette and I remarked on the friendliness of the park.  It's a magnet to future visits here.

It is early Saturday morning as I compose this blog.  The winds blew through Yuma and, although unusual, that woke me up at 4:00 am.  Unable to get back to sleep, I rose early to check email and compose this blog.

Before backing into our spot, I chose to park on the residential street to unload the motorcycle.  With that done, we backed into our spot and began the set up process.

By 4:00 pm, leveled, unbuttoned and settled in, we rode the few blocks in search of our friends, Hector/Diane and Chico (the dog), and Lucky and Trena.  We found them enjoying the late afternoon sun and hot temperatures.  We sat with them for an hour or so before heading back to our spot to prepare some dinner and settle in for the evening.

Today will see me join some motorcyclists for a brief ride before heading to the Hog Shop (a Yuma motorcycle shop) for a brunch and hangout kind of day....and kicking some motorcycle tires, so to speak!  Jeanette is joining Diane and Trena for some running around, a bit of shopping, and just hanging out.  

Now.....we wait for the winds to abate....but, that said, it was 64 degrees when I awoke at 4:00 am and the weather is calling for high 70's here today.  What's not to like about that!
