Easton Goes Home....and new golf clubs too!

Well, it's to be expected!  This blog speaks more about our first grandchild, Easton, and some activities around him.  Can't be helped!
A really good team of nurses and doctors has made Ginette and Trevor's transition to parenthood an easier one.  With good advice and support, Easton has had an easy time of life since his birth on April 10th.  So far, he's been a breeze to care for.  He doesn't complain much, he feeds well, sleeps well and has no difficulty with being handled by so many folks, Jeanette and I included.

Happy Nana....with comfy Easton.
This grand parenting thing will be good!
We loved this little outfit.  Very nice!
Checking out a new set of golf clubs....but they are not for me!
I had told Jeanette (way back, when we learned that we would be grand parents) that when our grandchild was born - be it a boy or a girl - I would present him/her with a new junior golf club set.  Easton was going home from the hospital yesterday so we headed off to the golf store. I had to deliver on my intentions.  I bought the golf set I had seen better than six months back.
Four clubs with nice graphite shafts.  It's a real golf set!
When Easton is about three years old he'll be able to use this set. I really look forward to taking him out on the range and putting greens.
Jeanette thought to add a few more things...and take this photo before we drove over to Ginette and Trevor's home to spend more quality time with Easton.  Oh....and present him with his new golf set!!!!
Easton got to hold one club but he was far more interested in feeding.  Understandable!  It's about priorities, right?

Our daughter and son in law had a good laugh when they saw the golf set.  We all laughed!  Others who came to visit laughed too!  Whether Easton chooses to golf or not - when he gets older - is inconsequential.  But his Grand Papa will at least introduce him to the links, the game and the etiquette.

Comfy and happy following a good feed.
We brought dinner along to ease Ginette and Trevor into the move back home with their new son.  We, sadly, watched the NHL Vancouver Canucks (President's Cup winners and the best team in the league) get seriously outplayed by  a much lesser quality team, the Los Angeles Kings.  Aaargh!  The Canucks are down two games, out of seven, while playing here at home!
This little froggie is keeping watch in Easton's bedroom.
So, that pretty well sums up our focus these past several days.  Easton's birth breathes new life in all of our lives - in more ways than one - and we sure look forward to sharing in his growth and development.

Thanks for dropping by and thanks too for all the nice comments - on the blog and in private emails.

First Grandchild Changes Things Up

What a grand day yesterday was!  What a grand day today, tomorrow and more will be.

Tuesday morning offered this.
Jeanette and I were up early.  Why?  We were anticipating some really special news about the birth of our first grandson, Easton Biro.

Jeanette had a few special gifts ready to take to the hospital....
...and she left some special ones behind for future visits.
And special it was when we first received the news that Easton was born at 9:20 am - with no complications.  He weighed in at 8 lbs 2 oz. - healthy, happy and hungry!
The very first photo we received via iPhone text - and the same photo we texted and emailed to all family and friends.
By early afternoon - having given Ginette, Trevor and Easton time to recover - Jeanette and I drove to the hospital to meet, greet, hold and cuddle this wonderful little fella.  WOW!  WHAT A FEELING!
A beautiful sight
Modern medicine made this delivery possible.  Easton was sitting breech in the womb and would not turn - or, as we discovered, could not turn.  That necessitated a 'C Section'.  With surgery scheduled for yesterday morning, we knew his arrival was imminent.
What a precious time.  A first look and touch with Easton.
Here is new 'Grand Papa' (French for grandfather), 'Nana' Jeanette, baby Easton and daughter (new mom), Ginette.

Nana has her turn.  Easton doesn't mind in the least.
Easton made the rounds from dad and mom to Jeanette, then me, back to Jeanette, to mom, to dad and, he never once winced or cried.  He seemed to enjoy the attention.
Grand Papa's turn with Easton.
To hold Easton for the first time was amazingly special.  To touch a new life is miraculous.  What a great feeling!

Trevor's mom, Sandi (proud new Nan), arrives.
Sandi arrived shortly after we did and quickly did her greetings before cuddling her new born grandchild.
Such excitement!
Easton is already getting spoiled.
A happy and healthy little guy!
Although it was a first meet and greet, Easton seemed OK with all the cuddling and handling.  Other than the odd yawns and big stretches, he was  fine with being held and touched and rocked and walked and,...well,.... you get the point!

After a few hours, we left the new parents and baby to rest.  We knew they would be entertaining many friends and relatives so we headed back for home.

It's 7:20 am and after I write this, and within 90 minutes, we'll be back at the hospital for more one on one time with Easton.

A special time for sure!

Thanks for dropping by.

Happy Easter!

A Happy Easter to all!
We are hosting a turkey dinner with family and friends today.

The flowers are alive and well!
Nothing better than sunny and warm days to get us moving on completing outdoor projects.  I had purchased new shingles for the back yard shed project but had to wait - patiently - for a dry, warm day to get at it.  That finally happened yesterday.

The shed that was moved to our yard last fall came with grey shingles.  Our home has brown shingles.  The objective was to change out the grey for brown ASAP.
With one coffee break and one lunch break, it took only five hours of work to complete the task.  Although I had thought about removing the existing layer of shingles, that seemed pointless.   I chose to nail the new shingles over the existing.  It worked out fine.
It was a short sleeve day out there.  The temps rose to  balmy 17 degrees Celsius.
The roof now conforms with the house.  A coat of trim paint around the new window, door and facia, and the shed will look like it has been there since the house was built.  I will be left with installing soffits and eave throughs.

THE MASTERS!

Sure hoping Phil Mickelson takes his 4th green jacket today.  He is one of my favourite players. I was rooting for Fred Couples till he faltered yesterday.  I still believe he has the smoothest swing in PGA golf...and he's a really great guy too!

So, while waiting for our Easter dinner company to arrive this afternoon, I will be closely watching 'The Masters' final round....while trying to be available to assist Jeanette with dinner preparations.  Although not a cook, I am a pretty darned good assistant - when required - in the kitchen.

Thanks for dropping by.

All Types of Weather.....and....Tiger Woods!

We've faced all types of weather since our return from the US southwest, these past few weeks.
We lucked out upon our return back home ( a few weeks back) with a solid week of sun.  That offered the opportunity to clean up the 5th wheel and store it.  It also offered the opportunity for Jeanette to complete some garden works.
But then the snow appeared last Sunday morning - albeit for a very short time.  By noon, it had melted away.
Coming down fast and furious.
By noon, this is what the melt looked like.
But there have been several bouts of heavy rain too!
However, so far this week, we've faced several days of intermittent rain between the odd bit of sun.  And the temperatures have been on the cool side.  Although not unusual for this time of the year, the amount of rainfall does put a damper on starting or completing outdoor projects.
That said, I reverted to completing projects in the garage.  This is the motorcycle swivel wheel. It looked like it was in need of some much needed TLC so I got right to it this week.  After sanding and smoothing out some of the rough edges, it received two coats of paint.
The second coat was applied today and, when dry, I'll remove the edge tape and store it till the next time it is needed.  The open utility trailer will then be brought into the garage and it too will receive two new coats of paint.

Apart from these projects, I have been fast and furiously reading Hank Haney's golf book about his six years coaching Tiger Woods.  WHAT A BOOK!!!!  The Big Miss: My Years Coaching Tiger Woods

I have about 20 pages left to complete the read.  It's a telling book that really paints a clear picture about Tiger's personality (or lack thereof) and his tireless devotion to practice.  It's a very revealing book!  It's clear too that he is a very lonely person (seems he always was). He is still the greatest golfer to have ever played the game.  Let's see if he can resurrect his game and continue with his goal to out win Jack Nicholas in tournament play.

We'll see how well he plays at The Masters - these next four days - beginning tomorrow (Thursday).2012 Masters Tournament

That's about it for here, for now.  Thanks for dropping by.
