Yesterday - a day for a motorcycle ride - today is for golf.

Jeanette under the famous road sign.
We chose to put some miles on the motorcycle yesterday.  We crossed into Arizona -from our place in the Moabi Regional Park - and head towards Oatman.  What a nice day.
Next door RV neighbour and avid Harley Davidson motorcyclist from Northern California.
Our RV neighbour`s wife tried to get her husband to get on his nice Harley and join us for the day ride but he chose to sit this one out. Nice folks.
Decent road - Route 66 north from Highway 40.
We stopped a few times along the way.
Yep.....lots of this - cacti and rock

What!  A library here?

Zoom into the photo (double click on it).....and you'll  be able to read the small print after the distance.
We rode through switchbacks at controlled speeds.  Sharp curves and lots of sand on the corners from the recent winds.  Easy does it.

Yep, in Oatman, donkeys roam freely in the streets....looking for treats.

Jeanette really enjoyed these guys/girls.
We spent about an hour walking around.  Jeanette walked over to the post office for stamps and proceeded to write a post card to her folks in Alberta, Canada.

I spent some time walking into a few leather goods stores and taking a few photos.  Here is one photo for my brother in law, Rick F.

Lots of stuff here....really old stuff.
For the uninitiated, Oatman was a mining town.  In the 1920's this place was home to over 8,000 folks who moiled and toiled in gold mines.  The mines were productive till about 1942.  It's pretty much a tourist town now....with the occasional gun fight.  We chose not to wait till 2:30 pm for the gun fighting to start.

These donkeys would not leave her alone.  The saying goes that you have to kiss a donkey.  It's a good luck thing.  We'll????
So we hung around then tootled off heading towards Kingman, AZ for fuel and lunch.

Traffic in town - on our way out.

Nice old service station and store in the high mountain country @ about 4,000 ft. elevation.
We had more and more switchback roads to navigate on our way out of the mountains and into Kingman, AZ.  After taking on some fresh fuel and lunch we headed off to Bullhead City, AZ and (one mile past that) Laughlin, Nev.

Casinos in Laughlin, Nev.

Harah's Casino in Laughlin, Nev. - Photo taken from across the Colorado River in Bullhead City, Arizona.  Yes, the river divides the two states.

Colorado River looking southward.
Rolled back home to our RV site and enjoyed a relaxed evening.  We chose to do some laundry, Bar-B-Q some burgers, then join our good friends, Hector and Diane, for a nice evening fire next to our site on the Colorado River.

We have a stackable washer and dryer on board our rig but Jeanette chose to hang the clothes and take advantage of a nice evening breeze to dry the laundry.

Yep, darn tootin' them is burgers on the grill.
So today is shaping up to be a calm and hot one....and the links are calling.  Golf links that is.  Hector and I are soon to leave for our round of 18 and Diane and Jeanette plan to head out for Laughlin, Nev.  Shopping.....touring....snooping...seems to be in their plans today.  We'll have to wrestle for the camera but I think Jeanette will win that one.

Till the next time, thanks for stopping by.

  2. Looks like you had a darned good day on your bike! I've been all around that area a few times (Bullhead City, Laughlin, Kingman) but somehow missed Oatman! After seeing your pictures of the donkeys and stuff, we'll definitely be making a stop there for sure next time we're in the area! Thanks for the info!
