Surviving Canada Day With Friends and Food.

Canada Day did not start out sunny here on the west coast.  It rained a good part of the night and the morning delivered cloudy skies.  It was not shaping up to be a day for motorcycling....till late in the afternoon but, by then, it was time to head off to the home of our friends.

Dinner with our friends was in the plans.

Good friends, Lorne and Mariette, had invited us for dinner and our contribution was to bring the desert.  Keeping with the theme of the day, Jeanette prepared a wonderful desert and, with a bit of time spent in her strawberry patch, she collected a small basket to bring along too.  It had a Canada Day theme.

The endless June rains helped the strawberry patch.  The crop  has been good....and, dare I say, fruitful.

Lorne was busy with the barbecue.  Once the beer can chicken was done, he roasted some fresh greens on the grill. 

While we were outdoors - enjoying the late afternoon sunshine (yes, the sun finally shone for a few hours) - Mariette and Jeanette were in the kitchen putting the final dishes together.  It sure smelled good!  It tasted even better!

Following a scrumptious dinner, the 'piece de résistence' - the wonderful desert - was served in celebration of 145 years since Canada became a country.  The flash from the camera highlighted the desert dish well but kept Lorne and Mariette in the dark.

It was a lovely dinner, held on a lovely Canada Day afternoon, and spent with good friends.

And that is how we celebrated our Canada Day.  We trust your day was well spent too.
