Surviving Canada Day With Friends and Food.

Canada Day did not start out sunny here on the west coast.  It rained a good part of the night and the morning delivered cloudy skies.  It was not shaping up to be a day for motorcycling....till late in the afternoon but, by then, it was time to head off to the home of our friends.

Dinner with our friends was in the plans.
Good friends, Lorne and Mariette, had invited us for dinner and our contribution was to bring the desert.  Keeping with the theme of the day, Jeanette prepared a wonderful desert and, with a bit of time spent in her strawberry patch, she collected a small basket to bring along too.  It had a Canada Day theme.
The endless June rains helped the strawberry patch.  The crop  has been good....and, dare I say, fruitful.
Lorne was busy with the barbecue.  Once the beer can chicken was done, he roasted some fresh greens on the grill.
While we were outdoors - enjoying the late afternoon sunshine (yes, the sun finally shone for a few hours) - Mariette and Jeanette were in the kitchen putting the final dishes together.  It sure smelled good!  It tasted even better!
Following a scrumptious dinner, the 'piece de résistence' - the wonderful desert - was served in celebration of 145 years since Canada became a country.  The flash from the camera highlighted the desert dish well but kept Lorne and Mariette in the dark.

It was a lovely dinner, held on a lovely Canada Day afternoon, and spent with good friends.

And that is how we celebrated our Canada Day.  We trust your day was well spent too.

For our American friends, we wish you an equally wonderful 4th of July Celebration!

Thanks for dropping by.

  1. Sure looks yummy! I had a beautiful Canada Day in Bath, Ontario visiting with my sisters for the weekend. This is where the US and Canadians had a battle over Kingston which was the capital at that time. So lots of celebrations were going on. It was great. Oh BTW, Canada won that battle !!!!!!

  2. Now that was a perfect looking Canada Day Dessert - it made my mouth water all the way over here on Vancouver Island!!

July is looking about as bad as June so far.

  3. Happy belated Canada Day to you both!...the dessert was very festive looking!!

  4. Looked like the perfect day. The beer can chicken sounded good and what a beautiful desert. Just catching up on your blog and events we finally have a good internet connection Verizon 4 G with a Jetpack.

  5. Beautiful looking dessert--a varmint has been eating my strawberries--nary a one yet!

  6. Thanks for great information you write it very clean. I am very lucky to get this tips from you.
