Pirates Cove @ Moabi, on The Colorado River

Yesterday (Saturday) was moving day.  After seven really good days in Yuma, it was time to button up the fiver and head north.  Our destination?  Moabi Regional Park, California - on the Colorado River.
Loading the motorcycle before the forecast rain on Friday afternoon
California has been the recipient of several rain storms and Friday afternoon called for rain in Yuma.  As unusual as that may be, by early evening, rain did fall.  We were back at my brother's home after enjoying a nice dinner out at a well known and very busy restaurant, Lin's Buffet.
Jeanette, Bernie and Rita - following our meal at Lin's Buffet.
The food was really good; the company even better.  Bernie and Rita treated us.  Thanks you two! Back at their place, we visited under their sun roof - listening to the rain - before we shared good bye hugs and headed back to our site in the Yuma Foothills.

Northbound on Highway 95, Arizona.
We were ready to roll by 9:00 am, Saturday.  Before leaving though, we searched for our motorcycle friends to thank them for their hospitality and the two nice motorcycle rides we were invited to join.  We found Roger.  He'll pass on our thanks to the others.  We hope to ride with these good folks again.
Still on Highway 95 - north of Quartzsite
The desert is ever changing and offering some terrific views.

We had no reason to stop so we rolled through Parker, through Lake Havasu and before arriving at Moabi Regional Park in California, we stopped at a large truck stop and topped off our fuel.
Arriving at Park Moabi, CA - Managed by Pirate Cover Resort.
Over the years, we have stopped here several times.  Situated along the Colorado River, it offers some rustic style camping with full services and 50 amps.  It is a nice change from typical RV parks in urban centres.  There are plenty of trails for hiking and the river is a nice place to kayak.
Captured early this Sunday morning
A surprise to us is why this area seems to have lost its appeal for winter RVers.  Only three years back, when the park was managed by the County of San Bernardino, the river side RV sites were more populated by monthly RVers.  Since the management was contracted to Pirate Cove Resort, the river side sites remain mostly unoccupied.  We recall when the monthly river side rates were $260/month (with full services) and today, with no real improvements, it's $450/month. Most RVers have not returned.

It is still a nice place to spend a few days enjoying the peace and tranquility. It is also a good place for Jeanette and I to securely store our 5th wheel while we are back home for Christmas.  That's why we are here.  In a couple of days, our rig will be rolled into well fenced dry storage which is also patrolled by security.  From here, we will drive to Las Vegas; enjoy a couple of days there before we store our truck and fly home.
Early Sunday morning on the Colorado River's edge.

Steam rising from a cool night
When I got up this Sunday morning, the outdoor temperature along the Colorado River was 5 C (40 degrees Fahrenheit.  Although cool, the sun had not risen yet and, in the desert, when the sun rises, it takes little time for the daytime temperatures to heat up.
Our site at Park Moabi Regional Park.
Only here for three nights, Jeanette and I chose a level and paved site over our usual river pod side sand and beach sites.   Before leaving here, this coming Tuesday morning, we will prepare our 5th wheel for dry storage.
I could not resist taking this photo, early this morning.
The Pirate Cove Resort's private, twin engine, float plane made for a nice shot with the steam rising over the Colorado River before sun up.

Our temperatures are slated to top out at about 70 degrees today.  We look forward to a long walk on trails we have gotten to know well, these past few years, and to enjoy the river and the topography that surrounds it.

I want to take our Sea Eagle kayak out, have Jeanette drive me farther up stream, and paddle all the way back down the Colorado to our RV near the boat ramp at Pirate Cove.

That's if from here for now.  Thanks for dropping in.
